Roy and Gwen Emerton will forever remember the day when one man's kindness changed their life.
Roy and Gwen Emerton will forever remember the day when one man’s kindness changed their life.
“My 89-year-old wife wanted to go outside on Friday, November 25, but as she walked through the kitchen door, she slipped and hurt her leg,” Mr Emerton said.
Mr Emerton knew that he would have to take precautionary steps to avoid this from happening again.

“I contacted Zane Samuels of Zero Defect Constructions the same day and asked him to give me a quotation to install a railing outside the kitchen door. He told me he would come to my home on the Monday to give me the quote.”
However, Mrs Emerton fell again on Saturday, November 26.
“I phoned Mr Samuels shortly after she fell and asked him if he could possibly come out on Saturday for the quote so he could erect the railings on Monday. He asked if my wife had fallen again, and when I said she did, he said I should give him 10 minutes.”
Being true to his word, Mr Samuels was at Mr Emerton’s house within 10 minutes.
“When he got to our home, he noted where we wanted to have the railings installed and said I should give him two hours.”
Two hours later, Mr Samuels returned with the necessary materials and had the railings made and erected.
“But, when I wanted to pay him on Monday, he said I did not owe him anything. I did not know what to say, as he and his team sacrificed their Saturday to put up the railings for my wife.”
Mr Samuels’s kindness overwhelmed Mrs Emerton.

“It really means a lot to me. When my husband and I first moved in to our home, we had two little boys and I ran after them and never fell, but now that I am older, I have to be a lot more careful,” she said.
“We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Mr Samuels for his efforts and kindness; it isn’t everyday when someone goes out of their way to help a person,” Mr Emerton concluded.
Mr Samuels decided to help the couple as a way to give back to the community.
“The community has supported my business well and this was a way to give back and as a way of creating some Christmas cheer.”
