Oom Ben lights up night and day

Newcastle 911 member, Ben Greyling, took it upon himself on December 1, to help prevent further burglaries at the Samaritan Pregnancy Crisis Centre.

Newcastle 911 member, Ben Greyling, took it upon himself on December 1, to help prevent further burglaries at the Samaritan Pregnancy Crisis Centre.

Mr Greyling said the centre had been a target of crime twice in one week, and therefore he decided to find a way to secure the place.

He noticed the outside lights were not working, and even if they were, it would not provide sufficient light at night, making the property an easy target for brazen criminals.

“That is when I decided not only to replace the broken lights, but to install a few more units around the house. There are only women at the centre, so there should be lights outside,” he said.

Mr Greyling emphasised the importance of taking care of one’s community, as the 911 Community Forum was not only there to combat existing crime, but to prevent it as well.

“I always live the simple morals of humanity. I believe if you look after your community, they will look after you. Anyone who knows me, knows that I will go out of my way to help where I can. It is just who I am.”

Ameena and Imran Ghafoor of Newcastle 911 Community Forum said the entire team was proud of Mr Greyling, and that he truly made a difference in people’s lives.

“Honestly, Oom Ben’s selfless act made my day a little better, and we are honoured to have people like him on our team and part of our lives,” concluded Mrs Ghafoor.
