One life. Just one.

“One life. Just one. Why aren’t we all running like we are on fire towards our wildest dreams?”

Estella Naicker

AS 2016 draws to an end, it is a time for introspection.

For some, it may be a time to reflect on how far you’ve come and what you have accomplished. A time to reflect on your aspirations and set down a plan (resolutions) for achieving your goals and living the life you dream about.

Many have become so caught up in the mundane routine of life. They are just going through the motions, trying to make ends meet, trying to put food on the table, going to work, raising children, and just trying to keep their heads above water. Caught up in tedious daily tasks, the dreams that these people have, are abandoned until it seems too late, and reflecting on what might have been seems like a nostalgic path to bitterness and regret.

There is an inspirational quote that goes, “One life. Just one. Why aren’t we all running like we are on fire towards our wildest dreams?”

So many times we tell ourselves… Tomorrow. Next week. Next month. We always put what we really want on the back burner to our daily routine. When we begin to dream of what could be and what we want, we need to start moving towards it. There is no better time than now.

While you enjoy the festive season with family and friends, I hope you will also take some time to think about the one thing that really matters to you. Think about what you truly want out of this one life. Think about what exhilarates you, what makes your heart race and makes you feel on top of the world. Think about what makes you feel alive, what gives your life meaning… And then let every action you take from this day forward bring you one step closer to that.

Each day we are given, should get our best effort. We make our dreams a reality. We are the writers of our own story.

With this thought, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year on behalf of the Vryheid Herald.
