Festive season on our roads
Road conditions are good and holiday makers had trouble-free journeys throughout the N3 route

During early December, the holiday journeys on the N3 were trouble-free. Travellers experienced no delays caused by road works during the festive season.
No major construction activities were underway across the Drakensberg to Durban and the eastern seaboard. Road conditions are good and holiday makers had trouble-free journeys throughout the N3 route, barring unforeseen traffic incidents or adverse weather conditions.
The introduction of the automated pay system last year on many of the country’s toll roads has contributed to the quality and safety of journeys, especially during peak hours. Road users with electronic tags no longer have to stop at the De Hoek, Wilge, Tugela and Mooi River Plazas on the N3.
Increased traffic volumes were seen during the first three weeks of December and again in early January as people make return journeys between KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
“Remember that a road is a shared space and that you should be respectful towards your fellow road users,” was the main message imparted to road users during the festive season by the South African National Roads Agency SOC LTD.
The 2016/17 festive season road crash and fatality figures have not been officially released.
