Update: 4 arrested after escaping from custody
A police manhunt is still underway to net the remaining suspects

Eight illegal immigrants managed to escape from custody today (January 12) after they managed to break the locks of a vehicle that was transporting them.
At the Lion’s River turn-off, the driver of the vehicle looked in the rear-view mirror and spotted two people jumping off the vehicle. Realising they were prisoners escaping, the driver drove fast until he reached the Mooi River Toll Plaza, where another six suspects escaped as the vehicle slowed down.
Howick SAPS were summoned and they have since managed to arrest four of the suspects.
Only the eight illegal immigrants were in the vehicle, and not 16 as reported earlier.
A police manhunt is still underway to net the remaining suspects.
