‘What he did to me, I won’t forget’ – Lorna Murdoch-Eaton

"I'm improving all the time. I don't really think about him much these days; I've flushed him away."

NEWCASTLE – Lorna Murdoch-Eaton is slowly picking up the pieces after she was brutally assaulted on November 4, 2016.

“I’m improving all the time. I don’t really think about him much these days; I’ve flushed him away,” she said.

She will never forget what the assailant did to her, and hopes he will have his day of retribution in court, and justice will be served.

However, no trial date has been set again after a initial court appearance of the perpetrator last month.

“It’s incredibly frustrating and it feels as if everything has been put on a shelf and forgotten, although I have come to the realisation that time moves on and people have their jobs and lives to get on with.

Although trivialities still sometimes bother her, she does not feel depressed or anxious as much any more.

“Mentally and emotionally I am so much better. Sometimes I still have nightmares and the occasional panic attacks, but its not like it was just after I was assaulted. So life is better overall, and my pets help enormously,” she said.

Moral support from the community at large helped Miss Murdoch-Eaton regain her self-confidence after her ordeal.

“I’ve always been an self-assured and confident person, and I’ve helped possibly hundreds of people throughout my lifetime who have gone through really bad physical and emotional trauma, so it astounded me how badly it affected me when I was the victim. I’ve learned a lot from this experience, although I would have preferred to learn this by reading a book,” she laughed.

Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Officer, Lizzy Arumugam confirmed the suspect appeared in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on January 20, but the case was adjourned until further notice.
