Sewage flows through Ladysmith industrial area

The stench affects business and they want the sewer problem to be gone from their lives for good

The Ladysmith industrial area is faced with the problem of continuous sewage flowing all over the place on a daily basis.

In the area of Main Road and Burger Street, there are 3 separate locations where the effluent flows and stops, and flows yet again.

“The industrial area is one of the busiest areas of town, where most of the big businesses are, so how can the conditions of the roads be felt in this state?” asked an angry business owner.

Speaking to motorists who use the road daily (it is an easy route to get into town, as Centenary Road is under reconstruction), they say their vehicles stink and they can’t even open their windows due to the smell.

Many a time, motorists have to make a dead stop to allow other cars to pass so they can drive in the other lane, as the sewer water is too much to drive through. Cars can also be seen avoiding potholes that fill up with sewage.

Business owners in the area say the road has just been re-tarred, yet the sewer water just stands all over the roadway.

The sewage flows into storm-water drains, which get blocked, and the sewer water just stands stagnant in the road.

Business owners want the problem to be solved once and for all. “We don’t want a quick fix and then it just leaks again after a few days,” said one business owner.

Business owners say the problem has been fixed in the past, but they know it’s bound to start leaking again… as it always does.

The stench affects business as well, and they want this sewer problem to be gone from their lives for good.
