One of the security guards involved in this morning’s shooting and attempted hijacking on the Bergville road is in a serious condition in hospital.
The one guard sustained serious gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen, and is currently undergoing surgery in theatre.

The other guard is in a stable condition and will be going home.
Both the security guards were in a security vehicle escorting a van that was transporting cigarettes.
The hijackers were lying in wait and ambushed the vehicle, opening fire on the security vehicle, which lost control and veered off the roadway.
The vehicle carrying the cigarettes was forced to a halt several kilometres from the initial shooting.
