8 years behind bars for possession of a stolen vehicle

Examination of the vehicle by the Ladysmith Vehicle Identification Section found that the licence plates had been changed and the VIN number tampered with

The Estcourt Regional Court recently sentenced 28-year-old Sandile Xaba to jail time for possession of a stolen vehicle.

This follows an incident that happened on May 24, 2016, when a resident parked his Toyota Tazz next to the taxi rank in Estcourt. On his return at about 5.30pm, he discovered that his vehicle had been stolen.

On May 28, police found the stolen vehicle in possession of the accused in Winterton.

Examination of the vehicle by the Ladysmith Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) found that the licence plates had been changed and the VIN number tampered with.

The accused was then arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

The accused was convicted and sentenced on February 16 to eight years in jail for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
