Protest continues in Bruntville

Since Tuesday, community members from Bruntville have been protesting on the N3 and R103

Police are keeping a close eye on the protest that is taking place in Bruntville, Mooi River.

Since Tuesday, community members from Bruntville have been protesting on the N3 and R103.

According to a police report, they are demanding to be employed by a contractor who is installing power lines in the area.
However, there have been reports that community members have called for the Mayor to step down, citing dissatisfaction with the current administration.

“They blockaded the roads with rubble and burning tyres. No damages and no injuries were reported,” commented police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.

Yesterday (Thursday) Mooi River police were called to the scene to disperse the protesting crowd.
“The protest is continuing and the members are at the scene to monitor the situation. No case has been opened at this stage,” added Lt Col Zwane.
