Courier readers voice their prayers, support for family of missing one-month-old Durban baby

Reader: My heart goes out to the parents of this baby....may this baby be found safely

A desperate search continues this morning for a missing one-month-old baby girl who was in a vehicle which was commandeered by two hijackers in central Durban yesterday afternoon.

Little Siwaphiwe was in her mother’s car when it was hijacked  near the City View Shopping Centre in Durban.

According to police, two armed men forced Siwaphiwe’s mother, Sibongile, and her 8-year-old child out of the car – before speeding away with the baby still inside.

The white Toyota Yaris was found later abandoned in Montclair, south of Durban, but the child wasn’t in it. The baby seat was not in the car, according to East Coast Radio,

Last night, the Montclair Police Station was a rallying point as locals arrived one by one – hoping to join a search or to offer support.

East Coast presenter, Phat Joe, has offered a R10 000 reward in his personal capacity for any information leading to the safe return of Siwamphiwe.  An anonymous caller offered to match his reward.

Anyone with information can phone the Durban Central Police Station or their local police station.

Courier readers have also come together offering their prayers and support to the family on the Courier’s Facebook page:

Nokuzola Ngobese I pray the baby is found unharmed. My heart is breaking for the family. I can’t even imagine what they must need going through now.
Biziwe MaShabalala Mshengu: May God protect the poor child. Other people are so heartless. ..nx!
