Update: Problem solved and water being pumped to Ladysmith homes

Residents can rest assured that water will be fully restored by 5pm

The water crisis which affected thousands of homes has been sorted out and water is currently being pumped.

A power cut at the Ezakheni Water Plant, which occurred last night (March 13), resulted in 250,000 homes without water.

uThukela engineers have been fixing the problem since the early hours of this morning.

“Residents can rest assured that water will be fully restored by 5pm,” said an engineer.

The plant is now operational and water is being pumped into the system. At this point in time, about 75% of the affected areas is receiving water. Only 25%, being the higher-lying areas (eg Platrand Avenue and higher parts of Rose Park), will receive water once the system is fully pressurised, which will be in approximately two hours from now.

Part of the Ezakheni area is also receiving water.

The problem encountered was in the form of operational issues coupled with power interruption.

uThukela apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused and would like to thank residents for their patience.
