MADADENI – Eight suspects were arrested for the possession of stolen property, after they allegedly robbed a tuckshop in Madadeni, Section 2 on March 11.
According to police reports, the owner of the tuck shop was attacked by a group of unknown men at around 8.30am who robbed him of cigarettes, cash and other goods.
The perpetrators fled the scene. A witness summoned the police and told them where to find the suspects. The police proceeded to a house in Section 5 where they found eight men inside, two of whom were under the age of 18, counting money.
The suspects allegedly used a certain a drug substance to intoxicate the victim, leaving him unconscious. He was taken to Madadeni Provincial Hospital.
Police also found various other goods believed to be stolen.
The suspects recently appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court and were denied bail.
Madadeni SAPS Station Commander, Colonel F.B. Alexander commended the witness who reported the crime and gave information which led to the arrest of the perpetrators.
