William Gilbert is one of seven young South Africans who will be representing the country at a fly fishing competition in Slatinany, East Bohemia.

This is an exciting feat for the Estcourt youngster, for whom fly fishing has been a passion.

The grade ten learner started competitive fly fishing in 2015 and represented KwaZulu-Natal in the Eastern Cape in 2015.

Since then, he has been making waves in the fly fishing fraternity and competed for KZN in 2016 in Pilgrims Rest where he was placed in the top 16 in the under 19 team.

William was then selected to attend the final trials in 2017 in the Western Cape and now has been chosen to represent the South African Fly Fishing Association Under 19 Youth Team to compete in the Czech republic in May 2017.

William’s family is embarking on a fundraising project to raise the R25 000 needed for the trip to Slatinany.

Unfortunately, this sport receives no funding towards these trips and the family is relying on assistance through sponsorship.
