Muzi Mbatha, the paramedic who went on a shooting spree that claimed the life of his girlfriend, has died in a Newcastle Hospital.

The drama unfolded at a party at the Club where Mr Mbatha and his girlfriend, Linda Vilakazi, apparently quarrelled outside in the parking lot.

According to police, Mr Mbatha shot Linda seven times.

She was taken to Dundee Hospital where Mr Mbatha became involved in an altercation with a friend of Linda’s, Laurette Sikhakhane of Sibongile.

He shot her near the outpatients building, leaving hospital security staff horrified. She was taken to Madadeni Hospital where she is in a critical condition.

Mr Mbatha, meanwhile, had got back into his vehicle, a red Audi, and raced towards Nquthu, with police in hot pursuit.

The chase ended at Nquthu police station where Mr Mbatha opened fire on police, ran to a nearby field and shot himself.
