N11 closed after woman killed in collision

A woman was killed and a man sustained moderate injuries when a truck and a light motor vehicle collided with each other on the N11 between Newcastle and Ladysmith at about 5am this morning.

The N11 has been closed to traffic from both directions about 7km from the Dundee off ramp.

Shortly after 5am, paramedics from ER24 and local emergency services arrived on the scene where they found the truck well alight. The driver of the truck was found outside of the vehicle with moderate injuries. He was assessed and treated by the local emergency services and later transported to Dundee Hospital for further care.

A woman was found with fatal injuries in the light motor vehicle. There was nothing that paramedics could do for her and she was declared dead on the scene.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known, said ER24’s Werner Vermaak.
