NEWCASTLE – True love is like a diamond – hard to find an extraordinary one. Such is the love story of Marita and Andrè Potgieter. In a world where heartache and divorce seem to have become the norm, these two beautiful souls have conquered it all.
Finding a love like no other, kind, gentle and free, Mr and Mrs Potgieter just knew it was meant to be.
Mrs Potgieter said although she had fought many battles, she never allowed life’s struggles to get her down, because her three children depended on her strength.
She raised her three sons by herself for nearly 21 years before she met Mr Potgieter in February 2011 while she was an office administrator at CANSA Newcastle, and he was one of the main sponsors for CANSA’s Relay For Life.
“He would come and do business there, and would stop by my office every day just for a chat.”
It didn’t take long before she fell head over heels in love with him.
Mr Potgieter admitted there was just something about his wife from the beginning which pulled at his heart strings, and before long the two started dating.
“I quickly realise that she was the one, and that I wanted to spend my life with her,” he said.
Mr Potgieter took their relationship to the next level and popped the big question while they were having dinner at a restaurant.
“I had no idea he was going to propose. I saw the box, and honestly I thought it was a lighter before I realised it was a ring,” Mrs Potgieter laughed.
