IFP councillor, Jerry Sibiya, urged councillors to beware of violent behaviour from municipal staff members who are caught doing wrong.
This matter was discussed at a council meeting held on March 23.

Cllr Sibiya based his warning on an incident that occurred between IFP councillor, Rial Ally, and a municipal worker.
“During a confrontation with a municipal worker, who Cllr Ally had found heading into a bottle store during office hours, Cllr Ally asked the worker what he was doing around such a place during work hours. Cllr Ally then reached for his phone, saying that he was calling authorities to inform them. The man got hold of the councillor’s phone and smashed it to pieces on the ground,” said Cllr Sibiya.
He went on to say that this worker had claimed that they (as municipal workers) had been working in their own way for years and anyone who tried to change that would be dealt with accordingly.
“I would just like to extend a warning to all councillors to be aware that they may be victimised if they call out a municipal worker for doing wrong. Be very careful, councillors, especially our female councillors, as they might try to corner you because you are females,” said Cllr Sibiya in conclusion.
