Police in Estcourt have recently received information from residents about two incidents that have taken place involving what they believe is a fertiliser scam.

It is alleged that a group of about six men are travelling in a white bakkie with a GP registration number plate. The men propose to be from a garden service company by the name of ‘Evergreen Garden Services’.

They offer to spread fertiliser on the lawns of prospective clients. They then spread only one bag over the lawn and claim an amount of R4 000 from the customer which they say is payment for multiple bags.

They then issue a receipt for the amount and leave. The client never sees the other bags owing to them.

Evergreen Garden Services have distanced themselves from this – they do not provide such a service. Police are warning the public to be wary of these types of offers.

If any type of service is required, home owners are advised to approach service providers personally and not to accept offers off the street.
