MADADENI – A visit to a shopping centre in Madadeni, Section 5, turned into a horrifying experience for Lungile Mlangeni and her nephew on March 25.
“We needed to draw cash from the ATM, but when we got to the machines, we saw a man being robbed by a group of boys. They were even taking his shoes.”
Shocked, Ms Mlangeni and her nephew rushed to the safety of their car.
“As soon as we got to our car, the boys surrounded it.”
With their hearts pounding, the nephew managed to start the vehicle and sped off.
“One of the boys smashed the passenger side door with a brick as we were getting away, but I am pretty sure he was aiming for the windows,” she said.
The impact of the brick allegedly left a hole in the door.
“We escaped by the mercy of God and only the car was damaged.”
The traumatised victim is now warning others to be vigilant.
“These boys work together and some of them pretend to be car guards before attacking you.”
The police were contacted for comment, but none was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
