On 30 March, Ladysmith K9 Unit, Upper Tugela SAPS as well as the Uthukela Crime Intelligence Gathering Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation that was held in the Upper Tugela area.

The members pounced on a residence in the Ngoba area where they arrested a 36-year-old suspect for possession of dagga.
The dagga weighs around 750kg and has an estimated street value of around R1.5 million. The arrested suspect appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on March 31.
The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa commended the members for the operation that led to the dagga recovery and the arrest of the suspect.
“We will continue with the drugs operation to ensure to that all drugs are removed from the community. We urge the community to collaborate with police in fighting with crime in the area,” he said.
