The Ladysmith Regional Court recently sentenced 53-year-old Sibusiso Elias Sithole to life imprisonment for the rape of a six-year-old girl.
On October 23, 2015, in the Manzini area of Ladysmith, Sithole called a child from the area to his house on the pretext of sending her to the shop for him. Instead he raped her.
He then gave her R5 and told her not to tell anyone.

The child immediately went to her mother and revealed what had happened.
Police were called and Sithole was arrested.
On March 31 this year, Sithole was sentenced to life in prison for rape.
The investigating officer, Warrant Officer MJ Masengemi, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the magistrate, Ms Shoba; and the prosecutors, Ms Mpumane and Mrs Singh, who were a voice for the vulnerable and helped him see justice done for the traumatised six-year-old child.
He also went on to express his appreciation to the court preparation officer, Mr Ntombela, who helped the child understand and prepare for the court process, which can be an intimidating experience for such a young person.
