A police officer was shot this morning (April 16) along the R103 just outside Colenso.
It is believed the officer attended a function in Colenso on Saturday night.
He left the function alone and was travelling towards Estcourt when he came under attack.
Unknown gunmen opened fire on the officer, hitting him in the shoulder.
Colenso emergency services were called out to the scene.
The injured policeman was treated and then transported to hospital.
Colenso SAPS are investigating a case of attempted murder.
