ARBOR PARK – Pleas of innocence filled the night air when drug dealers found themselves at the short end of the long arm of the law.
This comes after members of the Newcastle Directorate for Priority Crime (Hawks), Newcastle K9 Unit and Ladysmith Tactical Response Team (TRT) performed six drug busts in town last Thursday night.
The first stop was in Arbor Park, the three units working as one under the cover of nightfall.
“I am innocent! I have only been here for three days! I don’t know anything, let me go,” Arbor Park drug den suspects shouted.
Yet, within minutes after the TRT team safeguarded the house, the Hawks and K9 unit found 58 bankies of methcathinone (CAT) and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect and his accomplice’s cries of innocence were suddenly found lacking, as they stumbled over their words on why the narcotics were found in their home.
The men were promptly arrested, and the drugs and money confiscated.
The team worked diligently through the night, targeting known drug dens in Arbor Park, Hutten Heights and Lennoxton.
Their mission was to arrest as many drug dealers as possible and to send a message to other potential dealers: No longer would drugs be allowed to flow freely in Newcastle, damaging the lives of children and families.
While only two arrests were made, the Hawks, TRT and K9 Unit considered the night’s operation a success.
The team will conduct follow-up operations to ensure that drug dealers will not be able to peddle their wares with ease.
