ALLEN STREET ATTACK: Robbed elderly woman has a forgiving heart

78-year-old Polly Walsh forgives her attackers despite her ordeal.

NEWCASTLE – After being attacked in broad daylight on Allen Street last week, 78-year-old Polly Walsh said she forgave her attackers.

Mrs Walsh relayed the traumatic incident in vivid detail.

“I was on my way to a computer shop in town when I was robbed.”

While waiting at a red traffic light, she was accosted by two men who attacked her and snatched her handbag.

She said the perpetrator punched and pushed her against the steering wheel of the vehicle, hurting her enough to loosen her grip on her handbag.

Crying uncontrollably and panic stricken, Mrs Walsh was helped by a kind couple to retrieve her handbag, but not before it had been ransacked and discarded by the thief.

“After I managed to pull myself together, being pacified by the strangers, I proceeded to the computer shop where I emotionally broke down,” she said.

The owners of the computer shop offered her a strong mixture of sugar water and consoled her.

“I told them all my money was stolen. Gerhard and Roan kindly gave me the Compact Disks I was supposed to pay for, free of charge.”

In spite of many wicked people who were out to hurt others, there still were generous and kind people with much love in their hearts to help strangers, she said.

“To the men who attacked me and stole my money: I forgive you completely. I suppose you were hungry and in need of something to eat – but rather pray and ask God for a job to earn your own money instead,” she concluded.

Mrs Walsh is extremely grateful to the couple who assisted her and asks them to contact her as she wants to thank them personally.
