FAIRBREEZE – On April 18, the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court sentenced a 24-year-old to 15 years in prison for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
According to Dannhauser police Station Commander, Sergeant M Nyembe, the accused robbed a bakery van at Fairbreeze Farm in Dannhauser at 9am on October 24, 2015.
The suspect allegedly waited for the van to arrive at a tuck-shop, before he and an accomplice approached the driver and demanded money.
“He then proceeded to hit the driver of the van with a hammer, and then took a bag containing R1 000 in cash.”
The van’s crew members saw what happened and gave chase.
“Luckily, the men caught the accused and retrieved the money.”
Investigating Officer, Detective Warrant Officer TS Thwala, was commended by the station Commander Lieutenant B. Ntanda for the excellent work rendered.
