He was travelling with his children in his vehicle at about 3pm when three gunmen ambushed him on the Injisuthi Bridge. According to Inkatha Freedom Party Constituency Chairperson Mthembeni Majola, who was on scene, moments after the shooting, it is believed that the Induna’s van was being trailed by a green car.
“The driver overtook the Induna’s van and dropped off two males near the bridge, which the Induna’s vehicle would be crossing. The two men walked to the driver’s side of the van and started to fire several gunshots. He was shot at close range, including a gunshot to the head,” explained Mr Majola.
He said that the motive for the murder is unknown but there seems as if community members may know more that they’re saying.
“There seems to be secret issues among the community members. Just recently Mduduzi Khubeka was shot and killed in the very same area, no arrests have been made. Last week a homeowner was attacked with guns in his home. Fortunately he saved himself because he also had a gun in the house but eventually these attackers burnt his vehicle. They also tried to burn the house but failed because shots were fired at them,” said Mr Majola.
Police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig said on Monday that Amangwe police are following several leads in connection with the Induna’s murder. No arrests have been made.
