69-year-old attacked for her necklace in Murchison Street

As soon as she stepped onto the pavement, a teenager grabbed her necklace and ripped it off her neck

A 69-year-old Ladysmith woman was attacked recently in Murchison Street for the necklace she was wearing.

The elderly woman was crossing over the pedestrian crossing from the Oval Shopping Complex to the Murchison Mall when the attack took place.

As soon as she stepped onto the pavement, a teenager grabbed her necklace and ripped it off her neck.

She screamed for help and a family that was also in the street at the time came to her aid.

Murchison Mall security quickly apprehended the teenager and police were called to the scene.

The elderly lady was in shock and disbelief, and says that the chain she was wearing around her neck has great sentimental value to her.

She thanks the family who helped her get back the discs on her chain, and also thanks the mall security for their quick action.

She wants to find out who the family is who helped her and asks that they please contact the Ladysmith Gazette so she can thank them properly.

The woman will be laying charges against the would-be thief.
