An educator at a school in the Ezakheni area will serve hard time after being convicted of raping a 16-year-old learner.
The crime was committed during July 2015. On the day in question, a 16-year-old Grade 11 learner from the Ezakheni area had just arrived home when she received a call from her educator, requesting assistance.
She hurried back to school to lend him a hand. She found her educator alone in the classroom, where he tasked her with some work. As she got busy, he began to make sexual advances towards her.

She resisted but was met with force and raped in her very own classroom.
The incident was immediately reported to a family member, who notified police. A case docket was opened for investigation.
The educator was arrested the following day.
He pleaded not guilty in court and was granted bail. Investigations continued and the case was finalised in the Ezakheni Regional Court on Thursday, May 4.
The accused, 36-year-old Edmund Mzwandile Kheswa, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for rape. He was also found unfit to work with children and to possess a firearm. His name is to be entered in the National Register of Sexual Offenders.
