May 2 – Information was received that a woman from Benoni, Gauteng, who was reported missing, was suspected to be in Newcastle.
Using GPS co-ordinates, members traced her cellphone and found her safe in Ballengeich.
She was taken to the Newcastle Police Station where she confirmed she had come to Newcastle of her her own free will and wished to remain here.
Missing persons case was closed.
May 5 – Information was received of three men in a silver VW Polo, who were suspected of card cloning at an outlet in town.
The vehicle was spotted by members who followed it, while calling for SAPS back-up.
The men were followed to Maskeraal Farm before SAPS managed to arrest the men.
May 12 – Information was received that a young boy was robbed of his belongings at knifepoint on the corner of the Memel road and Impala street.
Members quickly responded and apprehended two suspects.
They were taken to the police station.
May 15 – Members heard a woman screaming in the CBD, claiming a man had stolen her handbag.
They gave chase and finally apprehended the man in Voortrekker Street.
The handbag was returned the woman.
She did not wish to press charges.
May 15 – Information was received that a man driving a small silver vehicle robbed a woman of her bank card and R1 000 cash.
The woman gave a description of the man’s clothes and members patrolled the CBD to find the vehicle.
They then spotted the vehicle at the Newcastle Taxi Rank picking up two other occupants, and the victim identified the man.
The vehicle was then followed onto the N11 where the SAPS intervened and apprehended the suspect.
May 20 – Members received information of a house robbery in Siyahlala-la Informal Settlement.
With the help of the police, they arrested two men.
Suspected stolen goods such as a DVD player, generator, car radio and a sub woofer speaker was recovered in Siyahlala-la.
The suspect was also linked to an armed robbery which occurred a shop in Hathorn Street.
May 20 – Information was received that a woman had been robbed of her cellphone, cash and handbag in Voortrekker Street, in the CBD.
Members conducted a search operation to find the suspect, which led them to the taxi rank.
While searching for the man, members received a tip-off pertaining to another suspect who was wanted for a robbery and stabbing.
With the help of the police, the suspect was apprehended and arrested.
