Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch on community safety – How can you help?

VRYHEID Neighbourhood Watch is an organisation that relies solely on public funding to remain effective as the eyes and ears of the SAPS.
Frequent patrols and visibility are vital in keeping criminals at bay, as that familiar green light reassures residents that someone is out there looking out for the safety of the community and acts as an effective deterrent against potential criminals looking for an opportunity to carry out their nefarious intentions.
Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch welcomes interested members of the public or existing household members of the organisation, to contact them with regard to getting involved in patrols, to take part in a patrol and witness firsthand what it entails and then make an informed decision if you would like to be a part of the team that keeps crime off our streets.

“This is important because we currently only see a name and telephone number,” states Communication Officer, Johan van der Wath. “In the case of an emergency, we don’t have an address. Time is wasted looking for information. Seconds can mean the difference between life and death.”
This also applies to those who are on the whatsapp groups but have never completed a membership form.
Patrolling members of Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch patrol voluntarily, but there are costs involved (radios, telephone costs, rental of headquarters, petrol, etc) in effectively ensuring the safety of the community. With this in mind, members are requested to make a nominal donation to assist the patrolling members in keeping the town safe.

Residents are advised that safety begins at home and your neighbours are a part of that safety structure. Get to know your neighbours and set up a plan of action to ensure your safety and security.
