Ladysmith police are investigating a case of murder after a baby girl was found strangled and dumped at the Ladysmith dumpsite on Wednesday (May 24).
At about 11am, people sorting through rubbish bags and looking for scrap metal found the body of a newborn baby girl.
Police were alerted and on arrival, they found that the baby had a thin electrical cord wrapped around her neck.
Speaking to psychiatrist Dr K Narsi, he says there are two kinds of people who can do this to a baby if they are family members.
The first is a person who has a mental illness such as Post Partum Depression or Post Partum Psychosis, or a much more severe case of mental blues which is a rare condition that affects only about 0.5% of the population.

The second type that can do this to a baby is a person suffering from Intent Anger, which is aimed towards another family member but is projected on the child.
The above falls under a person who is mentally unstable and doesn’t have coping skills / has poor communication skills.
