LENNOXTON – When it comes to caring for others, Leave No Girl Behind International (LNGBI) is dedicated to bringing joy into as many lives as possible.
LNGBI is an organisation which revolves around woman and girl empowerment, with the establishing of power circles in high schools.
Last Wednesday, the Lincoln Heights Secondary School power circle went to the Newcastle Provincial Hospital to donate toys to the children in the paediatric ward.
“We decided to start this initiative last year, when we came to hand out roses to the women on Women’s Day,” said Sumayyah Koli of the power circle.
During the Women’s Day drive, the girls noticed how glum the children looked.
“We managed to collect toys, which were donated by fellow learners, teachers and community members,” Sumayyah explained.
The gifts were met with delight and brought smiles to many a child.
However, the girls are determined to not let this recent donation to be the last of its kind.
“We would like to make this an ongoing project and reach out to as many children as possible,” Sumayyah concluded.
