A 29-year-old was recently sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting his niece.
The incident took place in the Kleinfontein area at the victim’s residence during October last year.
The accused alleged that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The brave young girl gave evidence in court and on April 24, the Ladysmith Regional Court sentenced the accused to hard time in jail and found him unfit to possess a firearm.
His name is to be entered in the National Register for Sexual Offenders.
The case was investigated by the Ladysmith Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences Unit.
