Ladysmith police have been informed of an email that many business people believe is a new scam. It is alleged that people have sent out emails to businesses, requesting them to update their directory.
The emails that have been received resemble that of a reputable telecommunications company. Business houses have completed and forwarded the document, only to receive a bill a week later.

An amount in excess of R7000 was claimed from one company.
On closer inspection of the email, it was discovered that it was a contractual agreement binding the client to a 24-month contract and it was not with the telecommunications company people thought they were dealing with, but with another company altogether.
Some business owners have been threatened with legal action by the said company.
Police warn the community to be wary of such emails and to ensure that they read the fine print so they know what they are signing up for.
