Two years after he was viciously murdered and his body dumped in a field no the Sunset Road, the family of Salvation Army Pastor, Hamilton Zulu (38), are a little closer to getting justice. Today the State wrapped up its case against the five accused in the Dundee Regional Court.
Five men, aged between 21 and 30, are accused of killing Pastor Zulu after they had posed as hitch-hikers on the morning of March 17. 2015, while the Pastor was travelling from Ladysmith to Dundee to sell perfume.
Another hitchhiker whom Pastor Zulu had given a lift to, Jabulani Keswa, was stabbed and then pushed out of the vehicle and left for dead on the Nquthu road. He managed to drag himself onto the road and was later taken to a hospital and has since recovered.
They later drove the Pastor’s car before stabbing him and dumping in a field on the Sunset Rest Road. His body was recovered on March 24, 2015, and his car in the Nyanyadu area.

Five men were later arrested – Aphiwe Mtwane is from Durban while Bayanda Khosa, Marcus Mthethwa, Nala Dlamini and Maputo Mbhele are all from the Glencoe area.
The trial was delayed after Mtwane claimed the police had forced him to show where Pastor Zulu had been left and that he had not done so out of his own free will. This caused a trial within a trial as his defence disputed that his evidence could be admissible.
However, Magistrate Nkosi ruled in the State’s favour and the case continued. The State has wrapped up its case and the accused have been remanded in custody until September 14 when the defence’s case will start.
Mr Sivnarain represents Mtwane while his co-accused are represented by legal aid. Prosecutor Matenjwa is appearing for the State while the investigation officer is Detective Warrant Officer Maharaj of the Glencoe SAPS.
