The case of a 20-year-old man who was arrested for the alleged rape of animals, including a crossbreed dog in the Somshoek area of Ekuvukeni on December 16, 2015, has been withdrawn.
The case was withdrawn because there was no evidence to substantiate the allegations against the suspect.
The case came about after a local psychiatrist approached Annamarie Koen of the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL). People in the area had told the psychiatrist about a man who had allegedly been raping animals. The psychiatrist asked the league to go and speak to the community, since they were furious about the rumoured acts of bestiality.
The man allegedly admitted to everything, including raping goats in the area. The owner of the dog, as well as AACL workers, went to Ekuvukeni police station, where Annamarie opened a case of cruelty to animals.
However, it has since been determined that there is no evidence to back up the community’s claims and the accused will walk free.
