One million nappies to achieve one goal

"We appeal to individuals and businesses to come forward and assist us."

NEWCASTLE CBD – Women’s Fortè nappy drive aims to collect one million nappies with one goal in mind – to restore the dignity in the elderly, the physically challenged and abandoned babies in the community.

On June 12, members of the organisation visited La Gratitude Home for the Aged, and donated six packs of adult nappies to its residents.

“We have received a positive response from the community. This has allowed us to donate the nappies to needy organisations,” said Cicilia Pieterse.

Sister Marlize Wilson of La Gratitude thanked members for the kind donation.

Although many people donated to this notable cause, more nappies are needed to reach the one million mark.

“We appeal to individuals and businesses to come forward and assist us.”

While every effort was made to educate the public about adult nappies, the stigma attached remains a problem.

“As an organisation, we are trying to broaden the minds of people and encourage them not to be ashamed but to come forward for help,” emphasised member, Morris Gajoo.

Women’s Fortè also urged the community to donate any unwanted items that could be converted into cash, to purchase nappies.

“We will accept any form of cash and nappy donations,” concluded Pieterse.

Pledge forms can be downloaded from the organisation’s website at www.womensforte.co.za or contact the organisers for banking details.

Alternatively, donors can deliver nappies and donations to 4 Jupiter Road, Schuinshoogte or drop them off at the Newcastle Advertiser offices at 70 Paterson Street.
