To complete their Technology study of structures, the Grade 7s at Hamilton Preparatory made a medieval trebuchet (machine used in medieval siege warfare for hurling large stones or other missiles) out of pallets using their knowledge of levers, triangulation and structural failure.
For many of them, it was the first time they had wielded a hammer or used a saw.
The groups competed against each other for the longest throw.
The pupils are pictured with the winning trebuchet, which hurled a beanbag around 20m.
