Livestock sale is a success in Ezinyosini
In total all the livestock that were sold on the day made R1 133 000

Vleissentraal and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (Veterinary Services) got together once again and hosted a successful stock sale on June 15. This time the sale was requested by Ntabamhlophe‘s local farmers.

The sale was held at Ezinyosini Stock Sale yard in Ntabamhlophe. Unfortunately two days ahead of the sale the poles were stolen from the kraal but this did not deter the plans for the sale.
“I am glad that farmers are finally understanding the importance of entering the commercial market, but I am also saddened that poles are being stolen. I advise nearby farmers to keep an eye on the kraal,” said Area Animal Health Technician Tau Senye.
The total amount of cattle at the stock sale was 162 and 158 were sold. These figures have doubled since the last stock sale. 10 temporary jobs were appointed to the locals to assist before, during and after the auctioning of the livestock.

The highest bid for an ox was R13 500 during the sale. Mr Senye has noticed that farmers tend to sell their livestock outside the kraal before weighing them in.
“At least let the animal get onto the scale. If the farmer is unhappy with the price, you can renegotiate later but selling before, is selling yourself short,” explained Mr Senye.
He added that livestock must be branded to be part of the auction. Mr Senye further urged farmers to make sure their livestock are tick free and to look after the facilities provided. In total all the livestock that were sold on the day made R1 133 000, 00.

The organisers would like to thank all those involved who helped make the sale a successful one. For more information contact Mr Senye on 076 967 8454 or 036 352 3119.
