On Wednesday afternoon, June 21, the grade five class from Sam-Lyn Edu Centre were treated to a hands-on workshop on wild animals, waste management and soil erosion.

A group of undergraduates and postgraduates studying animal management and science at Writtle University College in the United Kingdom kept the children enthralled.

This is their second study tour to UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve with their partners at Colchester Zoo. The group was headed up by their lecturers – Drs Jonathan Amory and Nicola Blackie.

The children were involved in numerous activities such as designing posters, discovering animal spore, looking at animals’ bones and running a relay race with waste material.

It was not only an opportunity for the children to learn about these very important aspects of nature but to meet and interact with people from other parts of the world. Sam-Lyn is extremely grateful to these students and the UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve for their ongoing involvement with the edu centre.
