With more and more job scams doing the rounds in Ladysmith, desperate job seekers are advised to be aware of these con-artists.
A woman by the name of Maxine was recently contacted by a man who claimed he was from the Department of Correctional Services, offering her a job. As a person seeking employment, Maxine was delighted about the offer and almost became yet another scam victim.
“I didn’t even bother to find out how he had my number, as I have never applied for a job in this specific department,” said Maxine.
After they had spoken about the job, the man asked Maxine for her ID number and other personal details, which she gave him.
He then told her she had to pay in a sum of R4000; R1500 up-front. Having read stories published by the Gazette, Maxine then realised this was a scam, as nobody hiring would ask for money.
She urges all residents to be aware of these scams, and encourages law enforcement to track down the perpetrators and arrest them.
