Illegal dumping continues to soar in Canna Avenue

A resident has reported the dumping on numerous occasions to the municipality; requesting a clean-up of the area but 'no one has done anything about it'

The end of Canna Avenue is a rather quiet area leading into a field. This could be the reason that it has become home to illegal dumping.

The few residents who reside there have to deal with the eyesore and stench from dumped materials. Speaking to a concerned resident, he says that he has reported the dumping on numerous occasions to the municipality; requesting a clean-up of the area but ‘no one has done anything about it’.

According to the resident, a ‘no dumping’ sign was erected last year but has since been removed. He said that he has seen people dumping and when he asked them to stop, they say that they were given permission by the municipal council to dump there.

“I doubt the municipality was aware of the dumping until my phone calls. A few weeks ago a municipal employee came and took pictures of the mess, but still nothing has been done yet,” explained the resident.

The resident would like the illegal dumping to be addressed to improve the image and hygiene of the area and urges other residents to bag their waste for refuse removal. The municipality has been made aware of these concerns.
