Resident fed up with foul stench from sewer leak in Ladysmith

"This really makes me angry because it is so unhygienic and could cause us, as nearby residents, to get sick"

A resident of Quality Street in Leonardsville is fed up with the foul stench coming from a sewer leak opposite her house. She says she has been dealing with the smell for years now and has complained to the municipality.

“This really makes me angry because it is so unhygienic and could cause us, as nearby residents, to get sick. We can’t even keep our doors and windows open, as the odour gets into our homes,” said a frustrated Sarika Singh.

Sarika blames uThukela’s incompetence, as she has complained numerous times to the district municipality and still they haven’t fixed the leak.

She also stated that this is bad for businesses in the area, as customers are disgusted by the sight and smell of the sewer leak.

“This is uncalled for. We pay rates and the municipality seems to have forgotten that,” added a furious Sarika.

She urges uThukela to come and solve the problem as soon as possible.
