Rapist sentenced to twenty years behind bars

He raped the 12-year-old girl on more than one occasion

Sakhile Mkhize will spend the next 20 years behind bars after he was sentenced to two counts of rape in the Dundee Regional Court.

Sakhile was found guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl in September last year. The court heard how the girl and her family lived with Sakhile and his family and that while her mother was away for work in Nquthu, he raped her.

The court also heard that he raped her on more than one occasion and even prevented her from leaving the house.

When she left for school however, she did not return but reported the matter to her aunt. Her aunt helped her to report the matter to the Dundee Police and a case of rape was opened.

Sergeant Hlela of the Dundee Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit investigated the matter and matched DNA found on the girl to Sakhile.

On July 13, he was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for two counts of rape.
