Mining companies prey on the poor
Entire homes are sinking into the ground in Ward 5 due to irresponsible mining practices.
MASSIVE mining holes are said to be swallowing up entire homes in the Bayete area in Ward 5 where mining companies have set out to dig for coal.
According to the areas councillor, Mdititi Ntombela, the issue at hand is caused by the fact that these mining companies requested to dig near these homes, shops and schools with the promise of creating job opportunities.
“Many people fall victim as they are currently unemployed and need the jobs they are being offered. We are currently dealing with an area which has an excavation the size of a soccer field that was dug near peoples homes, this is putting the lives of people in grave danger,” said Cllr Ntombela.
