Council approves R49K to keep acting MM safe

The MM has been granted R49K per month for security after he had allegedly been receiving death threats via SMS.

THE ABAQULUSI Municipal council has agreed to fork out R49 000 per month for current acting municipal manager (MM), Dalisu Zulu’s security.

This comes after the acting MM had allegedly been receiving death threats via SMS.

This amount is, however, a mere dent in the municipality’s funds when being compared to the R95 000 that was being paid monthly for previous acting MM, Bongiwe Mnikathi.

SAMWU and IMATU union representatives disclosed that ratepayers were spending roughly R95 000 per month for acting municipal manager, Bongiwe Mnikathi, to have her own personal security last year.

Reliable sources indicated that the R95 000 per month was paid for Ms Mnikathi to have two bodyguards and a security vehicle from a Durban based security company at her disposal.

The Mayor, Cllr Jerry Sibiya, said that such measures needed to be taken to ensure that Mr Zulu could do his job with the few days he has left in his position.
