Long wait for road maintenance to resume
The road works were abandoned and since then the gravel road has been a bumpy ride
Road rehabilitation on the Papkuilsfontein entrance road is dragging on.
The maintenance plan, which required the black top to be scraped off, started at the beginning of 2016. Shortly afterwards, the road works were abandoned and since then the gravel road has been a bumpy ride.
We asked Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality about the plan for this road and when the maintenance will resume. Communications Manager Sphelele Zikalala confirmed that the road rehabilitation is still on the maintenance plan.
“The Papkuilsfontein main road will be done as soon as internal matters have been resolved. This road is not part of the Municipal Infrastructure Grants (MIG) Projects. The initial plan was that it will be done internally by the civil maintenance team,” explained Ms Zikalala.
This process would entail ordering the hot premix and laying it but this would be possible when funds are accessible.
Ms Zikalala says this matter will be presented at an interim finance committee meeting this Friday.
