UPDATE: Call for calm in Rensburgdrift after ‘flesh-eating’ suspects arrested

“We warned the community not to intimidate the family members of those who have been arrested. They must leave it to the police”

At a community meeting in Rensburgdrift on Monday, a call was made to residents to let justice be served in the case of the four suspects arrested for allegedly possessing and eating human flesh.

Inkatha Freedom Party Councillor Mthembeni Majola said that when residents gathered at the community hall yesterday, they were urged to let the police investigation take its course.

“We warned the community not to intimidate the family members of those who have been arrested. They must leave it to the police,” said Mr Majola.

He added that a call was made to residents to sensitise them against traditional healers who use human body parts.

“People were cautioned against being deceived by traditional healers who say they will get money by eating human flesh. This is not true,” he added.

He strongly condemned the alleged acts and said that a protest march is being planned for August 28 when the suspects appear in court for a bail application.
