Vryheid parkrun celebrates another record-breaking morning

Seventeen personal bests and strong performances highlight another successful Vryheid parkrun.

Another strong turnout at Vryheid parkrun saw participants recording an impressive 17 personal best times on Saturday, while several runners benefited from the support of one of the event’s most valuable volunteers.

Siyathokoza Dlamini led the field home in an excellent time of 18:57, while Smangele Mnguni was the first woman across the finish line and placed eighth overall in a time of 22:53.

Personal bests continue to fall

Personal best performances continue to be a hallmark of Vryheid parkrun, with Andile, Linda, Siphethelo, Ntethelelo, Nkosikhona, Byrone, Chezelle, Friedel, Wilhelm, Hennezelle, Sonja, Nico, Janette, Isie, Lydia, Werner and Christoff all recording new personal best times.

Pacer plays key role in runners’ success

One of the key contributors to these achievements is regular 30-minute pacer Antony, who has become a familiar sight on the course. By maintaining a consistent pace, Antony helps runners target specific finishing times, whether they are chasing a sub-30-minute finish or simply trying to stay ahead of him.

Organisers noted that his influence was once again evident this week, with several runners achieving personal best times either just ahead of or directly behind the pacer.

More volunteers encouraged to get involved

The parkrun team is encouraging anyone interested in volunteering as a pacer for other finishing times to get involved and chat to the organisers at the finish area.

Birthday celebrations planned

Participants and supporters are also invited to join the celebrations on Saturday, when Vryheid parkrun marks its eighth birthday with a special event starting at 08:00.
